Scott is the founder of Mellen Money Management, a fee-only financial planning and investment management firm based in Nocatee, FL.
After spending nearly a decade working as a financial advisor for large financial institutions, Scott struck out on his own in 2016 to start Mellen Money Management. Scott's mission was to deliver truly independent advice without all of the red tape associated with a big company.
More importantly, Scott wanted to create a firm that could provide specialized services that focus on college affordability and student loans. What this means is that Scott is able to educate parents and young professionals on ways that help them avoid overpaying for an education. All while allowing his clients to balance their other financial priorities like saving for retirement.
As the founding partner, Scott has his hand in every aspect of the business. But more specifically, Scott is the point person for all matters related to student loans and retirement planning.
Scott is a Certified Financial Planner®, a member of NAFPA, and the president-elect (2021) of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Northeast Florida chapter. He received his bachelor's in finance from Miami University (OH), where he also minored in economics.
Scott and his wife, Emily, reside in Nocatee with their 2 girls and 2 dogs. In his spare time, you can find Scott out on the tennis courts or doing just about anything sports-related.
Ian joined Mellen Money Management in the spring of 2019 as a partner of the firm. Prior to joining Mellen, Ian spent the majority of his career at Merrill Lynch serving 45 ultra high net-worth families throughout the United States. As the team's Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Ian was responsible for overseeing $1.5-billion in assets under management.
However, as a native to Ponte Vedra, Ian was motivated to help his local community with a problem that he felt was being neglected within the financial services industry -- college affordability. It was this shared vision that compelled Ian to join forces with Mellen Money Management.
As a partner of Mellen, Ian has made his own mark within the organization. Ian is the lead planner on all things related to college affordability. Furthermore, Ian is the firm's tax planning expert and oversees the corporate retirement plans for small business owners (i.e. 401k plans).
Ian is a Certified Financial Planner®, a member of NAFPA, board member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Northeast Florida chapter, member of the Knights of Columbus, and president-elect of the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra. He received a bachelor's in economics from Colgate and an MBA from Rollins.
Ian and his wife, Nikki, live in Nocatee with their daughter. As a former college football player, Ian is an avid college and pro football fan. Go Jags! He also enjoys playing basketball, golf, and tennis.
